Alexa Lizotte is a Métis artist who shares her story of reclaiming her Métis identity through her beadwork, sewing, and educational opportunities. She wishes to share her story of overcoming shame, displacement, and intergenerational trauma to inspire young people to do this work sooner than she was able to, and to be proud of who they are. Alexa comes from the Métis Nation of Alberta on her father's side. Her community is North Vermilion Settlement (aka Buttertown), a small Métis community close to Fort Vermilion, AB. Her father is a survivor of Boyer River Indian Day School. She also has mixed European ancestry on her mother's side.
