Deeanne Sutherland is an Indigenous Artist/ Designer based out of Edmonton, Alberta. She is the creative mind behind "Under The Night Sky Creations." She is a Treaty 8 member and was raised in Grouard, Alberta. Deeanne and her family moved to Edmonton and started her entrepreneurial journey is 2019. In 2017, Deeanne lost her younger sister Dinnika and held a memorial round dance for her. At the time she didn't own a ribbon skirt to wear for the ceremony so took it upon herself to create her own. After posting that same ribbon skirt online it generated a lot of interest. She began to take on orders while being a full-time mother to her 4 children. Since then she dedicated her work to creating both traditional and contemporary designs that include ribbon skirts, ribbon jackets, hoodies, bags, shorts and scarves.
Deeanne believes that she is keeping her sisters spirit alive throughout her work. This journey has helped her stay focused and has contributed greatly with her healing.
Under The Night Sky Creations has now transformed into a family business that include Deeanne's husband Kelly Firstcharger and their son Junii. Together they share creative ideas with one another and continue to share their work for everyone to love and admire.
"We as a family business would like to express our greatest gratitude for all the support we have had over the years. We will continue to bring our most creative ideas in the coming years!"
